Data Disaster Recovery as an afterthought
can hurt your company
|
By Kevin Banks, IVT Founder and President
Hampton, Virginia,
Feb. 3, 2009 -- In today's competitive marketplace and global economy, business owners have little margin for error.
One game-changer for the worse that you can easily avoid is catastrophic data loss. Whatever your industry, today's businesses are data-driven to the point where a data disaster could ruin the business or put it far behind and in debt.
Data Disaster Recovery
Despite this fact, many organizations operate without any form of data disaster management. Why? Because most companies simply don’t know where to begin. For those who do have a plan, it is most likely dated and no longer applicable to their current infrastructure.
Whether it’s a hurricane, flood, fire, tornado, or hacker -- every day a fair amount of business owners, CIO's, CSO's and IT Managers find out if they've lead correctly by investing in a data disaster recovery plan, or if they'll be starting from scratch.
Data Disaster Plan
At IVT, our consultants will collaborate with your company to craft a data disaster plan that will facilitate business continuity in the event of a catastrophic data loss. In mapping out our strategy, we'll ensure the critical systems and data you need to operate your business are protected and available as soon as possible when disaster strikes.
According to Jim Hoffer's 2001 article in Health Management Technology, it's estimated that most large companies spend between 2% and 4% of their IT budget on data disaster recovery planning, with the aim of avoiding larger losses when the business cannot continue to function due to the loss of IT infrastructure and data.
He also noted that when companies suffered a major loss of business data, 43% never reopened, 51% closed within two years, and only 6% survived long-term.
